Providing support for heads in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and Warwickshire (Providing leadership support and advice, including two visits to date to school to a Headteacher in her first year in post, 2014 to present).Providing an interim headteacher (Ben Baxter), staff and IEB members to provide vision and direction to Bicester Community College moving it from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ over a period of 13 months (May 2014) HMI monitoring reports (June and November 2013) makes reference to ‘The high level of support (given by The Cooper School)…has been well received by the college. Not only has the school provided an Interim Headteacher who has vision and direction, but colleagues from this school have given advice on collecting and using information on students’ progress, timetabling and improvements on the subjects available to the students. The substantive Headteacher of The Cooper School has ‘kick-started’ the college on its journey of improvement. By restructuring the leadership team, and addressing the high level of inadequate teaching between April and July 2013, he has enabled the college to swiftly engage in improvement since the start of the academic year’. Ben acted as mentor to the substantive Headteacher (previously Deputy Headteacher at The Cooper School 2009-2014) from 2013 to 2015.In addition to the work that Ben has done at The Cooper School over the last ten years, he has increasingly helped and supported other schools, most notably:
Governance Support locally (Ben is a parent governor of a village primary school in Bucks since September 2011, helping specifically in appointing and supporting two Headteachers in their first post, strategic planning, curriculum, standards and teaching and learning. (Member of ‘General Purposes’ Committee and Lead Governor for Literacy). The school had been judged as 3 for overall effectiveness in April 2011, moving to overall ‘Good’ in February 2013).
